Announcing the Final Game in The Jackbox Party Pack 6: Role Models

What’s your deal, anyway? Just who do you think you are? What are you, some kind of hotshot? Some kind of big important muckety-muck?! Well la-dee-da, YOUR MAJESTY. Let me ask you this, pal: Do you have any idea what people REALLY think of you? Well, why not find out with a nice friendly game of Role Models!

In Role Models, you and your friends become guinea pigs for a mad scientist who’s studying human nature. All you have to do is choose a category, like Alice in Wonderland, then match each of the players (including yourself) to a “role” within that category. For example, if I were playing with my co-hosts from the Jackbox Party Club stream, I’d match Warren to the Mad Hatter because he’s the ultimate carefree party dude, Brooke to the Caterpillar because she’s wise and logical, and myself to the Cheshire Cat because I’m so witty and mysterious.

“But wait!” I hear you exclaim, “What if our test subjects disagree?” Maybe Warren also got some votes for the Cheshire Cat, due to his terrifying smile and his habit of falling asleep on sunny windowsills. Not a problem. Players who are tied perform a tiebreaker experiment---completely customized to that role--to determine who truly deserves it.

At the end of the round, each player has a role, and our observant host knows a little more about what makes each of you tick. She uses that information to point out similarities and differences in her test subjects. If Warren got the Mad Hatter, and later also got the Invisible Man in the Classic Monsters category, that’s going to set off some alarms because one person can’t be both a show-off and an introvert. Warren would have to answer a prompt to determine which characteristic really fits him best, with his fellow lab rats making the final call. By the way, if you don’t know anything about these characters, don’t worry.

There are plenty of categories to choose from, including ones that have nothing to do with pop culture, like Excuses for Being Late, Deepest Fears, and Reasons Why You Crapped Your Pants. The host awards you with delicious “science pellets” for voting with the majority, and for winning tiebreaker games, but the real payoff is in seeing your final master role, made up of all the previous roles you’ve earned in the experiment. If you got Captain America, Pikachu, and “slept through my alarm,” you might be crowned the “Lazy Electric Patriot” of your friend group. And once it’s official, there’s no escaping that title. That’s science, baby.

One last thing. As you might have noticed from the video and screenshots, Role Models will be our first game to support player selfies as avatars! It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while, and this seemed like the perfect game for it, since it’s all about figuring out who you really are. (Or at least what your friends think of you.) We think it’s the most fun way to play, but if you’d rather skip it, you can draw your avatar head instead. And streamers worried about abuse of this feature can censor individual photos or turn the feature off entirely. Role Models supports 3-6 players and an audience of thousands in the "control group."
