Mini Q&A with Drawful: Animate Game Director Spencer Ham

Spencer Ham directed Drawful: Animate, one of five games in The Jackbox Party Pack 8. To celebrate the launch of this game on October 14, we asked Spencer to share a little insight behind-the-scenes.

Who was on this team, and what were their roles in creating this game?

Lindsey Leder was the producer and the design team consisted of Dave Innis (lead artist), Andy Poland (audio lead), Claire McFadden (editorial lead), Isaac Sweet (lead gameplay engineer), and Alex Swan (lead jackbox.tv engineer).

What was your favorite part of working on this game?

All of the daily playtests we ran during the lunch hour. Not only did we learn a lot from those sessions, but it was a nice way to get to know a lot of our new employees. As the saying goes, you don’t really know someone until you make them draw “three raccoons leaving a broom closet.”

What are you most excited about people experiencing?

How the looping animation really elevates the experience. The art and music are livelier than ever and the prompts are straight-up bonkers.

Are there any behind-the-scenes production moments or funny screenshots you’d like to share?

Here are some of the other weird timer ideas we had before locking in on the corgi. According to its creator, Steff Egan, the character’s official name is Alotta Legs. So it’s canon now.
